Natural Remedies For Vitiligo

There are some natural remedies that can help with vitiligo (or improve skin appearance)

  • Papaya (Pawpaw)

This is one of the many fruits that have amazing health benefits. Some studies have also shown that it helps to improve skin appearance. In treating vitiligo, cut papaya (pawpaw) into bits and use it to rub on the patches on the skin area (affected by vitiligo), leave for 2-3 mins and then wash off. Do this regularly to improve skin appearance.

  • Red Clay

Red Clay is known to be rich in copper. Mix 2 tablespoons of red clay with a tablespoon of ginger juice and apply to the white patches on the skin daily. This mixture will help to increase blood flow to the skin area with the patches.

  • Use Sunscreen

Sunscreen is one of the major factors that cause vitiligo and white skin patches because ultraviolet rays of the sun are very harmful to our skin. Therefore sunscreen can be applied to parts of our body that is (usually) exposed to the sun. Before walking under the sun, it is advisable to wear long dresses to cover the body and prevent exposure to the sun; also umbrellas can be used as shade from the sun. There are some creams and lotions that can act as a sunscreen.

  • Water stored in a copper vessel.

Drinking water keeps you hydrated and refreshed, but drinking water stored in copper vessels increases melanin production in the body and in turn, reduces the appearance of the white patches (i.e the patches wouldn’t be too whitish).

  • Basil leaves

Basil leaves have anti-aging properties and anti-viral properties, and because of these properties, basil leaves can help to treat vitiligo (but not cure it). Mix basil leaves with lime juice and applies on the affected area, this will help to stimulate the production of melanin. This mixture should be applied every day for better results.

  • Walnuts

Walnuts are dry fruits with so many amazing health benefits. Eating walnuts every day can help improve skin appearance and also crushing walnuts into a powder then mixing it with a little water to form paste thereafter applying the paste to the affected area 10-20mins daily can give better results.

  • Zinc

Zinc helps to stimulate and facilitate the healing process. Therefore adequate intake of zinc supplements or food containing a high amount of zinc can go a long way in treating vitiligo. Cashew is one of the many good sources of zinc.

  • Vitamin C

Vitamin C is also important. Many people that have vitiligo sometimes also have a deficiency of vitamin C. Vitamin C aid healing and adequate intake can help with vitiligo.

  • Turmeric

Tumeric is a very effective remedy. Applying a mixture of turmeric (powder) and mustard oil can improve and facilitate skin pigmentation. This mixture should be applied 10-20 mins twice daily to the affected part for good results.
